about this event

FaithTech Brisbane 2026 Hackathon, organised by FaithTech and hosted at Power to Change in Woolloongabba, QLD, runs from Friday 13 November to Saturday 14 November. The event is about building something for a real ministry need in one weekend, alongside people who care about people. Beginners and first-timers are welcome, with the chance to make a real difference and be transformed in the process.

What is it? The FaithTech Brisbane 2026 Hackathon brings together builders, designers and students to collaborate with ministry and community leaders for a weekend of creating. You will join a small team, meet a real partner with a real problem, and prototype something useful for them, guided by mentors and the FaithTech Redemptive Create Process. This hackathon exists to help Christian organisations leverage tech to accelerate their impact. Over one weekend, we will design, develop and user-test a solution for the real challenges our partners face.

Who is it for? If you are someone who lives between "church world" and "tech world", then this is for you. Builders, designers, students, IT professionals and curious first-timers are welcome. No prior hackathon experience is needed.

Why come? You'll get a rare chance to build something with people who think the way you do, where "how does my faith fit with my work" is a normal conversation, not an awkward one. You'll practise real skills, meet people across career stages, and walk away with something tangible you helped create. You'll work alongside peers and mentors across generations, from students through to industry veterans. The create process is an active, hands-on way to get to know people by name and face, not just another networking session.

What skills do I need? Less than you think. In a hackathon, the team around you draws on skills such as creating and inventing; software design, development and testing, including AI-assisted and "vibe" coding; graphics and video production; presentation; and an understanding of church, ministry or community contexts, which is just as valuable as technical skills. A willingness to learn matters: first-timers are very welcome, and mentors will be present throughout. Whether you are experienced or just starting out, you will find your niche in a team that works together to innovate redemptively and prepare a software demo and presentation for the final judging. If you are unsure whether you would be useful, rest assured, you would. Come along, have some fun and make new friends.

When and where. Virtual briefing: Tuesday (Nov 10) at 7pm, a briefing on the ways of work. It will be recorded for anyone who cannot join. Friday night: 6pm-9pm. Saturday: 8am-7pm. Cost: $60 per person. Friday dinner, Saturday lunch, and light snacks are provided.

Partners and Projects. Living Wholeness has been providing training and discipleship for 20+ years in the Christian counselling and coaching space for pastors, coaches and counsellors across over 16 nations of Australia, Asia and more recently in Africa. Its founder, Dr John Warlow, will join as a partner and domain expert, and has developed the Christian Wholeness Framework, a Biblical diagnostic and therapeutic process for small groups, pastoral care, ministry and mission. Our innovation project will develop a new AI-based tool to help the Living Wholeness community learn the framework and refine their counselling skills.

Power to Change is part of a global missional network in over 190 countries, devoted to fulfilling the Great Commission through high schools, universities, churches and online. NCLS research has revealed that the Australian church is in decline and that 80% of Australians will remain unreached if we rely on current methods to grow the church. Their Church Movements team trains and mentors pastors to start multiplying movements, and equips church members for personal evangelism and discipleship. Tim Fryer, who leads the Church Movements team, will join as a domain expert and has a project idea for a tool to support the year-long mentoring of pastors in movement building.

Young Goh leads the Jesus film project team in Australia. He has an idea for a tool to help church members build faith habits or rhythms as a disciple of Jesus. This will also assist churches to improve discipleship and mentoring.

Who is FaithTech? FaithTech is a global tech community for Christ, living to see a Jesus revival awakened in and through technology.
